The National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) has been the heart of the kitchen and bath industry for more than 45 years. With more than 40,000 industry professionals in over 70 chapters throughout the United States and Canada, the NKBA is dedicated to enhancing member success and excellence, promoting professionalism and ethical business practices, and providing leadership and direction for the industry.

The Northern New England Chapter of the NKBA is a local resource for industry professionals in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. After taking this course, students will be able to:
Understand the different types of alternative countertops that are available.
Gain a strong understanding of the use of wood as a countertop, including the differences between end-grain, edge-grain and face-grain as a countertop.
Identify which type of wood countertop is best used for food preparation.
Have a general understanding of countertop finishes.
Summarize the care and maintenance of alternative countertop materials.
Understand how concrete countertops are manufactured and the color, texture and design options that are available to clients.
Understand which types of metal countertops are available and the differences between them.
Understand the utilization of glass as a countertop material.
The ability to compare alternative countertop options and successfully identify appropriate uses.
